This batch of drugs worth 250 million US dollars was found hidden in a batch of bananas that arrived at the country's most important seaport, Caucedo, located in the capital city of Santo Domingo.

Carlos Devers, spokesperson for the Dominican Republic's drug control agency, said that the goods were sent from Guatemala and destined for Belgium

Early investigations showed that the container containing bananas came from Guatemala

Many unidentified individuals attempted to transfer drugs to another container and then ship them to Belgium

He said at the press conference that ten suspects have been detained.

It is reported that the Dominican Republic has long been considered a major drug transit hub.
